Caring for your Lolita Clothes

Hiya pretty girls (and boys).

I decided to make a post on how I care for my lolita wardrobe. These are just suggestions and things that have worked well for me. Feel free to add any additional information in the comments.

General tips and information

1. ALWAYS check the care tag inside the garment. This gives you care information for the specific piece. Care tag in Japanese? Try this guide.

2. When in doubt, ask questions. Do some research, post on egl, send an e-mail to the shop you purchased from, but never try cleaning your clothes yourself unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing.

Prevention is key!

Keep your clothes as nice as possible by preventing stains. When eating, tuck a napkin into your blouse or dress to keep from staining the front. Who cares how it looks!
And what about those pesky underarm stains? Use dress shields! If you are using the adhesive type, test the adhesive on another (less expensive) garment first to make sure that it doesn't leave any residue. I like these ones that attach onto your bra straps. They are soft cloth on one side and vinyl on the other and they are washable.
Also, be sure to apply less makeup (or none at all) to your chin/jaw/neck area to prevent staining high collared items.
To prevent socks from getting super stained on the bottom, wear a thin pair of socks or nylons underneath.

Treating stains

If something does get stained, take it to the dry cleaner. They are the ones best equipped to deal with this "crisis." I spilled tea on one of my JSKs and my dry cleaner got every bit of it out! Never use OxyClean or other products to treat stains at home.

Washing and drying

Many Lolita items, especially brand prints, need to be dry cleaned. This means that you should never get these items wet, because the print could run, color could fade, or damage to the fabric could occur.

For items that can be washed at home, I recommend washing everything by hand rather than using a machine. That way you have control over how gently your clothes are being handled (rather that putting them in the rough washing machine.)

I always wash my items in cold or cool water (unless the tag specifies otherwise) to prevent shrinking and to keep colored items more vivid.

Never twist or wring! This can cause damage and unnecessary wrinkles.

I never put lolita items in the dryer. I like to lay them flat on a white or light colored towel. This will also prevent stretching/warping, but it can take several hours for it to try completely. Depending on the size and thickness of your garment, you may need to replace the towel a few times.

Ironing

Again, check the tag to see if it can be ironed and at what temperature.

Never use steam to remove wrinkles. As I said above, certain prints can run or otherwise be damaged by water, so use a "dry" iron.

Start with the lowest setting. You can always turn it up if you need more heat.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a press cloth! These can be purchased pretty much anywhere (check your local craft/fabric store). Irons can build up residue over time or even discolor clothes. Placing a press cloth on the garment before ironing can prevent this. It's a bit more time consuming, but it's better than ruining your clothes.

About spray starch... I've only used it once to help stiffen up a headbow that came with a dress I ordered from Oo Jia, and it turned out fine. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable using it on brand or on dark colors, however.

If you aren't comfortable with an iron, take it to the dry cleaner and they will press it for you.

Storage

How to hang your clothes is often debated. When you order directly from a brand shop, they usually include a plastic hanger with a soft foamy cover. These seem to work well and you can buy them here. I was also looking into possibly trying bendable hangers.

Make sure your dresses are hanging neatly in your closet or wardrobe. You've already spent a lot of time ironing, it would be terrible to end up with more wrinkles.

Petticoats

I don't have much advice when it comes to petticoats. I just try to make sure that they are not being squished by other items so that they stay as fluffy as possible. Before I put it on, I grab it by the waistband and shake it around (gently) to help fluff it out a bit... especially if it's been sitting in my wardrobe for weeks.

Shoes
Shoes can get scuffed pretty easily. A little bit of shoe polish will help with this. Or use a slightly damp washcloth and mild soap to clean the shoe. Dry immediately with a towel.

That's all I have for now. I hope it helps. In the meantime, I'll try to gather more information on caring for petticoats.

Milky Planet Re-Release Review (Image Heavy)

Happy Saturday!

At around 10:30 am the doorbell rang and it was the mailman holding a pink package, obviously from Angelic Pretty!

My dress was shipped in one of their shopping bags, which is surprisingly thick.

I opened it and pulled out the contents and much to my surprise, they included another bag and a sticker! (I just bought a $300 dress... they better give me something free! XD)

The dress was a little squished.

The front. I love the navy colorway! It looks like a nighttime carnival scene. The print is so vivid and bright... and it has glitter! The lace is super soft but the fabric seems a little bit rougher than some of my other AP items. Still superior quality though.

The back. The buttons where the waist ties attach are shaped like stars.

The neck! 3 ways to wear; ties, collar, or nothing at all.

The apron. The bow is detachable and the stars are pockets!

Several detachable parts. I like this because you can wear the dress any number of ways.
I'm a little disappointed with the quality of the striped fabric though... it seems a bit lower quality than the rest of the dress.

The sleeves are adjustable. (Sorry for the blur.)

I discovered this opening, which I thought was just a part they had forgotten to stitch...

...But it turned out to be a pocket! Neato!

I'm pretty happy with the service from Angelic Pretty. I ordered right at the end of Golden Week, so processing was a bit slower than it probably would have been normally. But that's ok. Over all, I'm happy with the quality of the product and would definitely order from the international site again.
As I said in my last post, Milky Planet is my dream print and I'm so happy that I finally own it (although I would still like to have the first release as well.)

I was thinking about doing a post or a video comparing this dress to the replica I own, so let me know if you are interested ^^

Kawaii Online Avatars

Hello again.

Today I decided that I would log into my Gaia account for the first time in many, many months. And much to my surprise, I had several lolita and punk themed items that I forgot were there. So, I made my way to the marketplace and purchased a few things to complete my online coordinates. Here's what I came up with.

A lolita style coord. Cute shoes, printed skirt similar to something you might see from Angelic Pretty, and ruffled sock.

A more mature and elegant style.

 Kawaii maid. Apron and sweets!

This is kind of an Aristocrat style... or at least my attempt at it.

Punk style. It's hard to see, but the headphones are in the shape of skulls.

Just like in real life, clothes are expensive on Gaia! If you're just starting out, try to get some basic, cheap, lolita and lolita-ish items that you can coordinate in different ways and slowly build up your online wardrobe.

Brand Guilt

Hi, my lovely readers! I hope all is well.

So, for those of you who haven't heard the news.... Angelic Pretty re-released MILKY PLANET! :D

It's my dream come true! I've always wanted Milky Planet in yellow and I managed to get a replica of it, but I told myself that if they EVER released the print again I would buy it... and so I have.

I just ordered the OP in navy.

But for some reason... I'm feeling extremely guilty. Money has been a bit tighter than I'd like it to be, so I picked up 3 extra shifts at work in hopes that it will ease my guilt. I just don't understand why I'm feeling this way. I've ALWAYS wanted this print, so why does it feel so bad to order it?

Does anyone else feel guilty after making a large purchase? Or is it just me? I'd like to hear what you all have to say about "Brand Guilt."

I'm still alive!

Hello! Long time no see! I just wanted to make a quick post about what I've been up to lately and things that I'm planning on doing in the near future.

I moved back in with my Mom. Long story. But I painted my room pink and got some frilly bedding. When I get everything put away properly, I might do a room/wardrobe tour if anybody is interested.

I also got a second job and am currently working 6 days a week. I'm so crazy busy lately that I haven't had any spare time to wear Lolita or even dress cute at all (ugh, uniforms ;-;).

I've also been "dieting." Just trying to eat better by cutting out a lot of processed foods, unnecessary sugar and salt, as well as eating more fruits and veggies, and increasing fiber and water intake. I feel great.

Sometime soon, I'd like to get back to blogging and I was wondering what sort of posts you all would like to see. I've also been considering doing videos and posting them on youtube, but I'm not sure anyone would watch or even what I would do XD But let me know what you all think as far as things you'd like to see from me.

It's also a goal of mine to go to my first Lolita meet-up and try to make a few local friends that have similar interests.

Well, that's about all I've really been up to and all I've really come up with for short-term goals.

Your feedback would be much appreciated!

Dream Print

Hi everyone! Hope you all are well.

Today, I got my dream skirt!

It's Fairy Tale from Metamorphose Temps de Fille.

I absolutely love this skirt! It's a bit different than I was expecting.

They call it a "mini skirt" which is pretty misleading. I was expecting it to be quite a bit shorter than it is, but it's the perfect length.
And the fabric is textured. It has kind of a rough feel to it, but it certainly doesn't feel cheap.

Another thing I'm happy about is the fact that it has full shirring. It had a crazy amount of stretch to it.

And the lace is some of the softest I've ever felt. It's beautiful.

All in all I'm really pleased with it. It's my first item from Meta and I absolutely adore it. I've dreamed about this print, in this colorway for so long and now I finally have it *^^* I'm happy.

What are some of your dream prints?

Semi-hiatus

Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing well.

For the time being I will not be accessing the internet much unless it is to pay a bill, check my bank, etc.

I was so hoping that I would get more opportunity to blog this Spring, but some unfortunate circumstances have left me wondering what I'm going to do with my life. I've made a few big mistakes and I am having a difficult time facing the consequences of my actions.

I've been neglecting my body and my spirit for so long that I think, in a way, my personality has changed. Sure, I buy nice things for myself (makeup, lolita, and so on) but those were just attempts at "self soothing." I need some time to reflect on the choices I've made and make some hard decisions.

I want to change. Not only for the ones I love, but for myself. I deserve it and so do they.

I still intend to post from time to time, but they will be few and far between... at least for the next 2-3 months.

Thank you, all of my lovely readers and subscribers <3

I hope to be in a better place next time I post.

Happy Valentine's Day

So, I know I'm a day late, but Happy Valentine's Day!
Did you all do anything fun?

Yesterday, my boyfriend took me out. I was so happy to get to spend the day with him.

First, we went for breakfast at Village Inn. I always enjoy their pancakes :9~~

Then he took me to a nearby theater and we saw Warm Bodies. I'm not a huge fan of zombies, but this movie was surprisingly good. It was actually a pretty cute story.

And then he took me to a miniature golf/ arcade place and we played for quite some time. We won 154 tickets (most of them his) so I got a dinosaur coloring book for my little cousin :3

The only thing that sucked was the fact that it snowed.

On a side note, I was able to purchase one of my dream prints from egl. I can't wait for it to arrive.

It's Meta's Fairy Tale print! I've rarely seen this print up for sale, and I can't believe I was able to get it in the color I wanted. I would have preferred the JSK but I'm just happy to have the print.

If anyone has the matching headdress and socks for sale, I would love to purchase them.

Have a good weekend.

Pretty and Cute Review

Hello my darlings.

I thought that I would share my recent purchases from Pretty & Cute. For those who don't know, Pretty & Cute is a company based in Oregon, USA that sells Korean and Japanese cosmetics.

I want to start by saying that their customer service is wonderful. They are polite, knowledgeable about the products they sell, and quick to respond to questions and concerns.

Another thing I really like about the company is the fact that they have free shipping within the U.S. on orders $50 and over. When they send a package out, your items are well packed with styrofoam peanuts to insure that nothing gets damaged. And even the free shipping is fast!

Pretty & Cute also has some great special offers that you can take advantage of! You get a free sample with EVERY purchase, regardless of how much you buy. They give a free (random) gift with orders over $39 and you can get 2 free face masks with a purchase of $65 or more. (Be sure to check the link I've provided for more details.

So, the first order I made was a small one. I bought Holika Holika Milky Veil Pore Cover BB SPF30 PA++ and Holika Holika: Milky Veil Oil Zero Powder.
This was my very first BB cream and I love it. It's so much better that traditional foundations; it's lightweight and it helps to keep my skin clear and soft. I was a little concerned that you couldn't select a shade to match your skintone, but the shade was perfect for me.
The powder came as a bit of a surprise. It was pure white, but when I put it on it doesn't make me look "powdery". Both of these products do what they are supposed to and I really like them, however I would like to experiment with other products and brands of BB cream.

My second order mostly consisted of things that I was buying for my best friend but I got a few things for myself. I got Face Q Red Pomegranate + CoQ10 Mask, FaceQ Grape Seed + Green Tea Mask and Crystal Band Top Or Bottom Lashes.
I've only used the Grape Seed and Green Tea mask so far and it made my skin so soft ^^ I was a little disappointed when I saw the lashes though. One side looks thicker and fuller than the other, but maybe they will look better once I have them on.
I ended up getting a super cute pair of lashes as my free gift and the sample I got with this order was Holika Holika Water March Moisture Pink Full Cream.

My third order also included things for another friend of mine but it was mostly for me. I got 2 Etude House: Toilet Kitty O'Day, one in Cutie Tropical and the other in Tender Powder, ElishaCoy: Vitamin Pore Cleanser (Mini), Holika Holika: Snow White Magic Film Mask Sheet, and Lioele: Perfect Jumbo Concealer.
The Hello Kitty perfumes are so cute and they have very light scent that won't overpower. The pore cleanser from Elisha Coy is ok, but it dries me out way too much. It would be suitable for someone with very oily skin rather than someone with slightly oily skin like mine. And I really like the concealer! It does a much better job at covering blemishes and redness than any drugstore makeup I've tried (Cover Girl, Neutrogena, etc.), but I can't really say how it compares to to higher end brands like Lancome or Clinique because I've never tried them.
For my free gift I got another pair of lashes. I also took advantage of the "2 free mask" offer and they sent me Holika Holika Cherry Blossoms Essence Mask Sheet and Holika Holika Pearl Essence Mask Sheet. And as my sample I chose Holika Holika Praha Blossom Skin, and I will definitely be getting the full size as soon as it's back in stock. It cleans all the oil and gunk from my face without making it feel tight or "over cleansed".

So, needless to say, I'm very pleased with everything that I've ordered and will be making several more purchases in the near future.

I would love to hear about your favorite foreign beauty products.

Until next time!

Angelic Pretty Dream Fantasy Lucky Pack

Hello, lovely readers <3

I just got my Angelic Pretty Lucky Pack. I ordered the Dream Fantasy Jumperskirt Set in Pink from the San Francisco site. They sold out in under a minute, so I feel very fortunate and thankful to have gotten one.

Anyway, onto the pictures!

It came in a large brown box and when I opened it up...

A large angelic pretty tote bag! This bag really is much bigger than it looks. It's actually the perfect size for an overnight bag or even as a carry-on for those long plane trips.
So, I opened the bag and found each item individually wrapped in plastic.

The blouse! It's a simple white blouse, not a lot of detail, but still very cute. And the ribbons are detachable. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit me very well, especially in the shoulders, so I'll probably sell it.

And the purse :D I LOVE this purse so much. It's soft and it will go with most of my other dresses. I wish it was a little bigger though XD

The super cute headbow. The lace is nice.

Those socks *_* They are so soft... and that little bunny!

My beloved JSK <3 It's perfection. The bow isn't detachable, but the waist ties are.

The back has shirring.

And the print! It reminds me of Milky Planet, but cuter because of the little sleeping bunnies <3

I'm very happy I decided to get one this year. In my opinion, it's one of the cutest prints Angelic Pretty has ever released.
If any of you got lucky packs (from any brand, lolita or not) I would love to hear about it :3

Mini review of Gothic Lolita Wigs

Hello, my loves!

I just wanted to say happy new year to the people that read my blog.

And I've finally decided to post a picture of myself. I'm not wearing lolita or anything special, but I am wearing a wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs.

Yep, that's me XD

Anyway, this was the first wig that I've ever purchased and I love it. It's very soft and the curls hold well. It's a little hard to style, but that's probably because I've never really worked with wigs before. The quality is so much better than "costume wigs" like the ones stores sell at Halloween, so it looks more natural.

A few days after I got my wig in the mail, I went out and bought a wig brush and a wide tooth comb so that I can maintain it properly. I also purchased a different wig cap because I don't really like the one that they sent with the wig; It kept sliding off my head and it was a little uncomfortable.

All in all, I am very pleased with the product, the service and the shipping speed.

Let's make 2013 a great year.
